The Caledonian Club of Prince Edward Island

The Caledonian Club of Prince Edward Island was was formed on June 2, 1864. Its approved constitution appeared in a Charlottetown newspaper, Ross's Weekly, six weeks later. The Club was incorporated on April 5th, 1881, and is a not-for-profit community-oriented group dedicated to promoting an awareness of pride in, and celebration of, Scottish Heritage.

 

Membership

Club Membership is not limited to the Scots, but includes all who have an interest in the culture and historic traditions of Scotland. Feel free to come out to one of our events and ask us any questions you may have.

Annual dues for membership in the Caledonian Club are $10.

The Club newsletter, "The Caledonian Flame", is published quarterly and mailed to the entire membership.

Organization

The business of the Caledonian Club is conducted by officers who are elected at the Annual Meeting of the Club. The officers of the Club consist of a Chief, President, two Vice Presidents, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, and Secretary.

 

 

What We Do

The Caledonian club of Prince Edward Island preserves and promotes an interest in the history, culture and traditions of Scotland, and also encourage the social aspects of all members.

The Club continues to celebrate the traditions of Scotland by holding annual events such as:

  • Robbie Burns Concert to honour the memory of Scotland’s beloved national poet.
  • Tartan Day is celebrated all over the world on April 6.
  • PEI Highland Games was the chief object of the Club since 1864, to encourage and practice of the Games, and thus the preservation of the customs and Manners of Scotland.
  • Tartan Day to celebrate the anniversary of the declaration of Scottish independence in 1320.
  • St. Andrew’s Day Dinner is celebrated in honour of Saint Andrew – Patron Saint of Scotland. Celebrations include the famed Scottish Haggis, bagpipes, speeches, toasts, songs and presentation of the Island Petroleum Caledonian Award.
